Can we get contextual ideas here, because we're throwing around homophobia without even expressing what would be actionable.
1. Homophobia is calling someone a f****t. This is obvious.
2. However, would the members of the thread say being against same-sex marriage homophobic.
3. Is it homophobic to say all homosexuals will burn in hell? Most would say yes.
Forget the article for a second. What would be considered hate speech. I heard someone say that the LGBT community should be placed behind an electric fence. The people that would agree with this are a loud minority. However, would that be considered hate speech and if so should they be imprisoned for this speech. Should that person be arrested. Would that change anything other than people with that mindset feeling like they are being persecuted and develop a further view that they are in the right.
Listen, I have been called a f****t on multiple occasions; heard people use harmful myths about the origin of HIV; and even heard people relay the common stereotype about gay men being sluts when they [the chick saying it] was really whorish herself. The line I see this at is arrests for those propagating stereotypes that influence violence against gay people.
