I love both of these books too. :pepeheart:
I think both also have the idea that you can't escape no matter how hard you try, and that you'll eventually cave in and become like the majority.
I Am Legend does remind me a bit of both of those books too, someone tries to remain true to themselves and resist, just in a different way than the other 2.
oddly all authors agree on "welp you are fucked" in part in their books lmao, there is a reason I love classics, they never shy away truly

Hello, I am currently reading a controversial trilogy but wanted to recommend it but of course, will give trigger warnings!

It is the Captive Prince trilogy! TW for Rape, Pedophilia, Enslavement, Violence, Racism

So this series takes place in another world where a kingdom known as Akielos and Vere are enemies and constantly at each other's neck. Prince Damianos was set to inherit the throne of Akielos but his bastard brother Kastor wound up disarming him, faking Damianos' death and sending him off to Vere to become the pleasure slave of Prince Laurent-the soon to be king of Vere. Of course, he has no idea it is the "dead" prince of Akielos.

The trigger warnings may deter people and I will say it does make you uncomfortable but I AM COMPLETELY in love! Hoping to finish the second book today!

ITS OK lol i didnt read properly for ages as well, this thread was something I wantedfor a long time however, and I want to recommend and review books I read constantly HEH

Ken Liu? If the translation is good I will love to check him out, sci-fi is not my cup of tea, but fantasy is so I believe I will like the books o.o
He mainly writes short stories but I found those two in his book of short stories, The Paper Menagerie

Now, I am quite reluctant, but my favourite author is Marquis de Sade. He is very weird, very frowned upon, but honestly, his books are amazing.

I know, that his books can't be handled by people with a weaker stomach, but I would strongly recommend his short stories. They published these under a lot of names, therefore I can't give a specific name for a book but yeah he has around 30-50 short stories, which he wrote when he was bored. He has oddly captivating style, and well, if you can handle his writing, I believe you won't get horrified ever from any book.

OH OH ANOTHER ONE THAT I THINK IS CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED IS THE GENERATIONS TRILOGY!

Ok so here me out, it is Scifi and not like light Scifi. However, I can't say much else about it but seriously this series blew my fucking mind!

So just to give a small description. A girl wakes up and realizes she is trapped in a coffin. Once she manages to escape she realizes she is in a room full of coffins that hold other children just like her. It doesn't sound like much but so much winds up happening and Scott Sigler took so many leaps and chances with the plot! I adore it!

Also, just a heads up the first book is called Alive, the second Alight, and the final Alone-I have read all three books and highly recommend it if you are looking for a good high scifi series!

Oh and for me. I read a lot of fantasy but want to expand my tastes and read more mystery or thriller! So if anyone has recommendations amongst those genres I'd appreciate them-plus I want to read more adult as well but love YA too!

OH Captive Prince?? I love it honestly, oddly, pun intended, captivating book. It is a shame so few people I know read it, but it is brilliantly written, its ending, was a bit disappointing for me, it happened well, too fast honestly (you will understand when you read lol), but keeping an eye out for that author for more books!!

Oh wow! I'm shocked I feel like the book gets a lot of flack for the content because people think it romanticizes everything and I didn't get that vibe at all. I'm glad to find someone else who likes the series!

I hate rushed endings but let's hope it goes well and yeah I adore the writing style and the way Damen & Laurent are written.

Alright, since you want YA, how about Spook's Apprentice? It is one of the books, that you can't point out what tf its supposed to me, but I believe you might like it. It is series tho, beware!

I think its just right amount of romance, people falling in love, but also keeping differences and the fact they rule a country, and their honour is the one that is important at that area.

Actually, If you like this, you might like The Founder of Diabolism.

Good news, It is translation novel, therefore, you get all of this book, for free lol.

TW for homosexuality, nothing R rated till the very end honestly tho, you can skip if you want, Zombies, and Murder
It is a book where our main character dies, and reborn as someone else, he remembers every event, and other people wishes to capture him, because he was not really liked when he was alive lol

I would explain more but rest... would be complete spoiler rip

LOL allow me to take your topic to completely wrong point

Out of Dystopia books, my favourites are Brave New World and 1984.

Oddly both are written as a response to each other. Orwell defends that if people are being controlled they would notice and try to escape/rebel. Huxley, however, says if people are being controlled, they wouldn't notice such thing, because they are born in this situation. As long as you can fake them into believing, you can do anything.

I like reading both and comparing them, but it depends on the taste.
I like 84 more but both are interesting in how they did mange to project forward and hit close to the mark on many societal issues.
big brother is literally everywhere now, and folks actually embrace it.
ofc all sci fi folks are in love with the designer baby world that has yet to appear possible. Like Gattaca.

Hm, designer baby DID happen, but it was completely illegal, honestly, at the moment we do seem closer to 84 in a political way, rather than Brave, but both are superb creations that explain this view amazingly. I doubt anyone would regret reading them.
