Exactly my thoughts. I'm fed up with all this dinosaur made regulations for parents who don't want to pay attention to their children.
I just watched a video from one of my favorite youtubers about this COPPA law and is honestly ridiculous. Is clear that whoever wrote the project doesn't know shit about social media or popular culture in general.
Well look at the age of the adverage age of people making laws. A lot of them pre-date the internet by a million years. They don't have to understand how something works to throw a law at it.

Yea it is rly bad that the language about it is so vague and lot of things can be "appealing to children" even if the videos aren't aimed for kids. You have the obvious stuff like toy videos, but also figurine collectors and figurine/doll makers have been already affected even if they don't aim their content for kids. This has also made lot of gaming channels nervous, cause in the FTC it says that games are appealing to children so are all games no go now? Same with animators since animation and cartoons is put as child appealing. Lot of anime youtubers are nervous for same reason. Lot of games, animation, cartoons and anime isn't for kids at all, but will the lawmakers realize that?

Sadly some of my fav anime and game channels have already said that they will quit youtube in January if the situation doesnt' change, they cannot risk getting fined 42k per video : /

FTC really needs to change their language, cause they are way too vague right now.

This is practically what is not allowed:

So basically you gotta be showing softcore porn or showing violence which would get you demonetised anyway to not be affected?

People don't really know, they are demanding answer from youtube and FTC. Youtube is just saying that youtubers need to consult their own lawyers... like most of them have access to lawyer :dubuthink: At the moment people are thinking of putting age tags like 13+ in the title of video, putting disclaimers at the start of video, cursing, moving to more mature content like towards more violent and adult games and away from minecraft, trying to find sponsors so they could get by without ad revenue but the issue is that videos that are flagged as child content don't get any comments and they can't be searched in youtube so the audience will die for that kind of videos anyways.

With how vague this is this really does seem less of an attempt at protecting children and more of an attempt to destroy YouTube since the best solution for this new policy seems to be to leave and go to Twitch but that wouldn't work for users content who can't be streamed.

Basically what COPPA is ageism. You're saying adults can't like this or that. And the fact that COPPA finds EVERYTHING as for children as if adults don't exist. Where is the right for adults to be able to choose what they want to watch? Why should we suffer because someone ignored the age to sign up. There was youtube kids why are they on adult youtube? We know it's parenting failure but the government don't see it that way. And the sad side effect to COPPA si how much gamers with adult channels scrape up for charity. All those charities are going to loose out millions (yes millions seriously gamers kick up big money) because we want to "protect kids". There are some creators who are going to voice their opinion but what of the chances of old farts moving.

And the kicker to all this is, the thing fining you is an algorithm and to fight any fines is gonna be a bitch.

It wouldn't exactly be the first time the people in power were out of touch with how the internet works but I did see a video that might make the outcome we are actually getting less on COPPA and more so on YouTube

Oh we already know youtubes agenda. Heck with this if you don't make them money you gone behavior shows how much youtube cares. But the thing is youtube can't fine you a huge amount of money so that's what is scaring creators. That's why everyone is freaking out. The fact this whole COPPA thing is technically youtubes fault solely for not stopping kids, that they want on the page, in the first place for violating the age limit.

Hahaha about time someone got a someone got someone who knew about laws involved.

THis is a mess, and it's youtubes fault.

Youtube red isn't make them money they must find another way.
