Just want to let you all know I'm surprised at how many of you are readers (Except @RandAlThor, because his name duh.)

In my opinion, the only genre I find worth reading is SciFi and Fantasy, because everything else I can find in real life. Fantasy is the only good stuff.

Also, I know you're probably shocked I read books but reading is my number 1 hobby. I love it even more than Kpop, which is rare lol.

If anyone has any fantasy stuff you highly recommend that I haven't already read or plan to read, I'm all open to suggestions! :D
LOl i am an Addict when i was in university i could not study in the library because there were books there ..... i would get distracted .

The majority of the conflict books are dated, shoot Clancy is 80's and forward, so you will have to deal with that.

Red Storm Rising has been one of the better looks at how a ww3 could have happened. A nice look into a world that is very different from now.
Those who lived is say the threat of a global conflict was always in the back of the mind.

Also there are movies of many of these which messes with the cannon.
What goes on the screen becomes cannon (which is why i hate the lotr movies they look great but his Frodo and Aragorn suck)

In my youth i was way into ww2 era stuff Alistair MacLean owned that. usually a mystery/ spy drama also.
Where eagles dare
The Guns of Navarone
When eight bells toll.

most of The Frederick Forsyth stuff i read is 70's
Odessa file- Nazi search
dogs of war- mercs
Day of the Jackal - the global assassin.

For ludlum

Before the movies Bourne was fun, now it more interesting to see them in the time frame they were written and compare.

I read a great book(hey its great in the time addled brain ) about the Israeli hit teams in response to the Munich games but i have never been able to find it again.

Sci fi
Enders Game - Movie actually did not kill this one, but the book is still much better. fantastic projection of what the power of the WWW would become.
Startide Rising - fellow species uplifted to space faring sapience (Dolphins and Chimpanzee )
Starship Troopers - movie sucked. I knew it would the philosophy of the book is too personal responsibility orientated for Hollywood.
have been in my top 20 forever.

Tunnel in the sky - gated travel to un-colonized planets as a high school /university survival final exam.
Citizen of the galaxy - slave beggar grows up.

Pick and choose I tried to give a short idea if it helps.

Omg, Shakespeare. My Arch-Nemesis.
I had to take a course on it at some point....never ever...ever...ever....make that mistake.

Though much ado about nothing or whatever wasn't too bad???

mysteric

I only read Romeo and Juliet and It made me wish I was the one who took the poison.
I have to do it next but thing is, I hate it with a passion
And thanks to Nier:Automata, whenever I hear the Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo part, I machine machines saying it, along with lines like Begone from the world wench! and Thou shalt taste thy dirt so I’m going to be screwed reading that part

I think I've read that one like twice and I still can't remember like ANYTHING from it except for the constantly referenced lines

It literally is just so stupid. Bunch of horned up kids killing themselves.
They literally make it out to sound like its some revolutionary piece of literature but straight up its teen drama but with death.

Also for those who are into scifi, I would highly recommend Isaac Assimovs books, they're pretty interesting and imo he's great at creating more scientific futuristic worlds and making plots around them.
I robot is a great stand alone.
Foundation is seminal but i feel it does not age as well as say Verne.
Asimov, Smith and other early greats were legit scientists who transitioned into writing.

I recently read Dune for the first time and I honestly thought it held up insanely well for being written over 50 years ago.

Dune is a monster the first book is just crazy good That was the first massive political type book with crazy numbers of characters i read. Forget the movies and mini series just use them for pronunciation.
Dune is in my group with over 10 rereads.
Lotr is more Eye of the world is pushing that (well a reread on each new release will do that.)

Robert A. Heinlein youth targeted stuff also ages well.
I think his idea of weaponizing the moon would work.

LOTR is in my top 2 series of all time, sometimes number 1 but 1 and 2 keep switching.

I also haven't made it to Heinlein yet because I'm still into more Fantasy before I move over into SciFi but I read Game of Thrones before Dune and I honestly thought that Dune does all the political stuff just as well, if not better. I was also shocked by how much Robert Jordan and GRRM were influenced by Herbert.

I like Dune more too GoT was just not my style it took me 4 tries to finish book 1, and i am kinda proud that i called the ending 3.
If i want dark ill go Black company or the
Malazan Book of the Fallen which i really really like even as weird as it gets at times.
